Bertus van Niekerk has long dreamed of creating a unique, high-quality, and affordable wine under the Osbloed label.
Osbloed Wines are crafted, bottled, and distributed by Bertus, a former minister who transitioned from church life to winemaking more than a decade ago, and he has never regretted that decision.
The Osbloed boutique winery features a selection of interesting and unusual varieties and blends, all produced in the garage-cellar of its owner in Somerset West.
Bertus is a natural storyteller, a talent he brings to wine tasting events that highlight both the wines and the stories behind them. He enjoys travelling across the country to present his wines in person and can be contacted for tasting events throughout the year.
If you appreciate the stories behind the wines, their unique flavours, and the intriguing tales of the winemaking process, an Osbloed Wine Tasting is the perfect experience for you!
Osbloed's flagship wines include a top-rated Cinsaut, Sauvignon Blanc and Blanc de Noir. Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and two unusual blends complement and extend the range.
In addition to the Farm Animals Range, the Horses of the Apocalypse, which form part of the Aristarchis collection, features highly collectable wines produced from single barrel ferments. These wines gained recognition after being featured in over 30 publications in 2012, including several international blogs.
A photo of the original cellar team behind Osbloed wines, published in the 2013 Platter’s Wine Guide, highlights Bertus, his late wife Selma, and their son Hendrik. Selma Albasini was a renowned artist, and her artwork is showcased on many of the Osbloed labels.
